SRM is a protocol that specifies an interface to storage resources. Here we will use an implementation provided by the http://www.dcache.org/ project. Suchandra will be installing this on a set of servers at UC, using the VDT packaged version as described here and here. There are multiple interfaces to the backend storage, including srm, gsi, and a native interface called dcap. There are testing tools available from LBL (they have a separate implementation they call SRM-DRM) here: http://sdm.lbl.gov/srm-tester/, and the SRM client tools are in VDT-Client.
