Guidelines for ATLAS Editorial Boards

NOTE: This summary is intended to be a synthesis of the ATLAS Publication Policy. In case of question the latter is the authoritative document.

1. Interact with Physics Group or Detector System while paper is being finalized
  • Try to include the board's recommendations in final draft from the Group/System

2. Organize the presentation of the paper at a general ATLAS meeting (eg. an open EB meeting) once the draft is endorsed by the board, the Physics Group Convener (Detector Project Leader) and Physics Coordinator
  • get on the schedule for the presentation meeting
  • post draft 0.0 of the paper on the ATLAS-CDS reviewing system for papers
  • announce the paper, supporting material, and presentation to 'atlas-current-physicists' at least one week before the presentation
    • can be done via the reviewing system

3. After the presentation decide what modifications need to be made
  • these may reflect comments submitted on CDS, comments at the presentation, additional input from Physics Group Convener, Physics Coordinator, or authors
  • a meeting may be desirable to reach agreement on modifications to be made and their time scale

4. Organize the 2-week ATLAS commenting period
  • request an author list for the paper from the Authorship Committee Chair
  • ensure that the author list and acknowledgements are added to the revised version of the paper
  • ensure that the ATLAS cover page is added to the paper
  • post draft version 1.0 on CDS
  • announce the 2-week review period to 'atlas-current-physicists'

5. Following the commenting period decide on modifications to be made
  • follow up with editors

6. Present draft version 2.0 for any remaining discussion at a 'public reading'
  • revised draft should be on CDS
  • review status of draft and steps already taken
  • chair discussion of any remaining issues
  • indicate any final steps to be taken
    • either at meeting or shortly thereafter if editorial board needs to meet

7. Organize the final 1-week waiting period
  • final version should be on CDS
  • announce final version of the paper to the author list e-group

8. Submit to CERN directorate for approval
  • reply expected within 1 week

9. Submit to journal and arXiv preprint server
